Joan Cartan-Hansen started as a reporter for KIDK-TV in 1983. Since 1988, she has been a producer/reporter/writer for Idaho Public Television. Joan is the lead producer/host for “Science Trek” and “Idaho Science Journal.” In addition, she is a producer/reporter/writer for “Outdoor Idaho.” She also writes and produces a number of documentaries and occasionally contributed pieces to “The PBS News Hour.” Joan has won a number of awards including several regional Emmy® Awards, gold medals at the New York Festivals, the Kavli Science Journalism Silver Award from the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Tellys, CINE Golden Eagles and Platinum prizes at Worldfest. She was inducted The NATASNW Silver Circle. The National Educational Association and the Council on State Governments have also honored Joan for her educational projects.
Besides being president and trustee for NATASNW, Joan is active in several professional organizations including the Idaho Press Club. Joan also sits on the Idaho Supreme Courts Media/Courts Committee and is member of the Idaho Supreme Court’s “Fire Brigade.” A native Idahoan, Joan is married with two children.
