The 55th annual Emmy Awards® marked the third consecutive year the ceremony was held at Chicago’s Alhambra Palace, a lavish, Middle Eastern-themed venue that provided the perfect backdrop for such an extravagant event.

The Emmys marked a return home of sorts for host Jerry Springer, who produced his longtime talk show in Chicago for several years before moving to the East Coast.

Guests were greeted outside by a lavish lineup of Rolls Royce and Bentley vehicles provided by Perillo Motors. The excitement continued on the inside, with a cocktail hour energized by a performance by a live band and a belly dancer.

But of course, it was all about the awards ceremony itself. The Chicago/Midwest chapter represents industry professionals from TV markets in portions of Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana.

Highlights of the evening included a special dedication to Roger Ebert by his widow, Chaz Ebert, and Thea Flaum, the creator and producer of the movie review show Siskel & Ebert.

The Emmy Production Committee is already in full planning mode for the 2014 event, and promises plenty of surprises for this year’s ceremony. But more importantly, the Call For Entries period will begin soon, so start compiling your best work so you can possibly be one of the select few standing on stage accepting your Emmy.
